Who We Are
Maryland Endocrine, PA is a group practice specializing in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic disorders in adults, with offices in Columbia and Laurel. The practice was started by Dr Barry Lance in 1982 in Laurel, and expanded to Columbia in 1985. Our group currently provides expert outpatient consultative services to adult patients from a wide geographic area, and performs inpatient consultative services at Howard County General Hospital. Dr Argento has been the Diabetes Medical Advisor for Howard County General Hospital since 1994. We limit the scope of our practice to endocrine disorders and ask all our patients to have a primary care physician to attend to their non-endocrine related health care needs.
All of our physicians are university trained and board certified in Adult Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolism. Our areas of expertise include all aspects of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, the metabolic syndrome/insulin resistance including polycystic ovarian disorder; thyroid conditions including underactive (hypothyroid) and overactive (hyperthyroid) thyroid disorders, thyroid nodules, goiter, and thyroid cancer; osteoporosis, vitamin D deficiency and metabolic bone disease; unusual forms of high blood pressure; high and low calcium disorders as well as other blood salt disorders; high cholesterol, triglyceride and other lipid disorders; pituitary and adrenal gland disorders; and the endocrine disorders of pregnancy. We provide sonographically guided fine needle aspiration of thyroid nodules, thyroid sonograms, and continuous glucose monitoring studies, download glucose meters, continuous glucose sensors and insulin pumps, and host multiple monthly diabetes education sessions in our 2 offices, and perform a wide range of laboratory services in our CLIA and State of Maryland certified diagnostic laboratory. We believe in taking full advantage of advances in technology to improve patient care, and have been named a Diabetes Center of Excellence by Medtronic Diabetes, an award given to diabetes centers that have successfully implemented best practices for modern diabetes therapies including insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring. We have used a fully implemented electronic medical record and prescribing system since May 2004, enabling us to send our consultation notes to other physicians almost immediately and minimize delays and mistakes with prescriptions.
Maryland Endocrine has a fielded a walk team, Team EndoDocs, yearly since 1999 to help raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the leading organization funding research to better treat and ultimately cure type 1 diabetes, and we invite interested patients and their families to participate by donating to the JDRF through team EndoDocs, or better yet, or starting your own team or joining Team EndoDocs. The walk is held in the spring annually at Centennial Lake in Columbia, Maryland. For more information, go to www.JDRF.org.
At Maryland Endocrine PA, we pride ourselves on providing comprehensive, compassionate, expert care for adult patients with diabetes, thyroid disorders and other endocrine disorders, and look forward to remaining the premier Endocrinology practice in Central Maryland. Nearly all of our physicians are also residents of Howard County and active members of the community.
